Healthy Apple Crumble Recipe

This healthy apple crumble recipe is warm, comforting, and completely irresistible. The best thing to do when fall rolls around is to head into the kitchen and bake an apple crumble. This is the best fall dessert recipe that perfectly embodies the cozy, cinnamon spices that everyone thinks of during the fall season.

While cooking an apple crumble your whole house will smell like vanilla and cinnamon, making the wait for the oven to finish baking it all the more torturous. The best thing about this recipe is that it is made with healthier ingredients and alternatives so you can enjoy your favorite fall dessert without any guilt of overindulging on sweets.

What makes this dish healthy

This dish has been made healthy by removing the traditional apple crumble ingredients of sugar, butter, and flour. Instead, we have used maple syrup, coconut oil, and oats as a replacement and a much healthier alternative. We also use the natural sweetness of the apples to add to the dish and make these flavors more pronounced.

Without these ingredients the apple crumble still has the same wholesome and delicious favorites, but now comes with less fat and sugar. Plus, one serving only has around 180 calories, which is quite low for a dessert dish.

Dietary changes

This dish is already completely vegan which is a huge bonus! There are no animal products used in its creation which makes it all the more enjoyable. However, if you are not vegan you can substitute the coconut yogurt topping for something made with milk like low-fat Greek yogurt or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

To make this dish gluten-free you can substitute the oats for a gluten-free flour, almond meal, or flaked almonds.

What to serve with apple crumble

This apple crumble recipe can be eaten as is or it can be served with a few different kinds of toppings. The most popular topping is vanilla ice cream. The combination of the warm apple crumble and the cold ice cream is delicious, however, ice cream isn’t the most healthy option. With this in mind, you can also top with low-fat greek yogurt, coconut yogurt or any other healthy alternative.
