How much protein do I need per day?

Dear CleanFoodslovers,

Do you pay daily attention to the amount of protein you consume? You often hear that the amount of protein is very important, but do you know how much protein you need per day? And do you really need those protein shakes and protein bars?

Why are proteins important?

Protein, also known as protein, is important for various processes in the body. Among other things, as an energy source and building blocks for the protein in body cells (such as muscles).

What are proteins in?

Almost all foods contain proteins, but some amounts are very small.

Consider, for example, the amount of protein in spinach, which is 2.5 grams per 100 grams. The amount of protein in cooked lentils is 10 grams per 100 grams and in chicken fillets 30 grams per 100 grams. These are major differences.

Proteins can be obtained from vegetable and animal origins, namely:

vegetable: legumes, cereals, seeds, nuts and tofu / tempé
animal: egg, meat, fish and milk products

How much protein do we need per day?

On average, an adult needs 0.8 grams of protein per pound of body weight per day. So a 60 kg woman needs about 48 grams of protein per day.

When you eat more protein than you need, your body will convert it into energy.

There are also people who need more protein, such as children, the elderly, pregnant women, lactating people, people with a heavy physical occupation, vegetarians and people with a disease. Strength and endurance athletes also have a higher protein requirement.

Do you fall under the above category and do you want to know how many proteins you need? Then contact your doctor or dietitian.

Much love from Fleur
